Set the sweep so it just kisses the floor. One that drags hard will tear loose within a season and can scuff hardwood.

What’s the difference between weatherstripping and caulk?

Replacement makes sense when the frame is rotted, the sash no longer meets the jamb anywhere, an insulated glass unit has a failed seal with permanent fog between the panes, or the window won’t open in an emergency. A low-e exterior storm window is a strong middle option, usually costing a fraction of replacement while cutting a meaningful share of the heat loss. If you rent, this is your landlord’s call — document the drafts with photos and put the request in writing.
Should I seal the weep holes on my windows?
No. Weep holes are the small slots along the outside bottom edge of a window frame that let rainwater drain back out. Seal them and water stays trapped in the frame, which leads to rot in wood, corrosion in metal, and ice damage in winter. If you feel air moving at a weep hole, that’s the drainage path doing its job — put your sealing effort into the sash and the interior trim instead.
